The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Competitors are granted the right to question specific rulings made by the chair umpire, echoing the protocol already in operation at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move comes just a year after the All England Club rolled out electronic line calling, which terminated the centuries-old tradition of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the umpire to re-examine other situations, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Importantly, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a player can request.
Case in Point
An illustrative example took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at all of its events.
Other Changes
A further innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This solves instances where fans have sometimes been unsure whether a shot was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
