Area Police
Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
